Simply the best.
You will need:
Ingredients: ▪16 oz garbanzo beans soaked overnight + 1 Tbsp baking soda ▪10 oz split fava beans soaked overnight IN SEPARATE BOWL ▪1 bunch parsley ▪1 bunch cilantro ▪1 bunch green onion ▪3-5 garlic cloves ▪UP TO 3/4 cup water to help your mixture process *pour your water slowly* ▪2 tsp salt* ▪1/2 tsp black pepper* ▪1/2 tsp red pepper * ▪1 tsp ground coriander ▪1 tsp baking powder ▪1/2 tsp all spice ▪1 Tbsp ground cumin *salt and pepper is always to taste, feel free to use more or less* To make the ultimate tahini sauce for falafel dipping: •2 Tbsp tahini •4 Tbsp yogurt •1/2 lemon *or more depending on your lemon; sauce should not be thick* Pulse all in a food processor. WHAT TO DO: Start by soaking the beans overnight. In the morning, drain your beans. Set up your parsley and cilantro like I show in the video and chop off the stems. Clean the green onions as well. Process the greens and the beans in a food processor. If you put the greens in the processor bowl first, you will have a more accurate knowledge of how much water you will need. DO NOT exceed 3/4 cup water. You may find that you do not need any water. This is simply to help the processor along. Remember, it is easier to add water than take it out. Add the garlic and all other spices. You will also need a falafel mold or just use two spoons and make little ball shapes. You need corn oil or other oil for deep frying and a deep fryer skimmer. Heat your oil to 375F and deep fry the falafel until brown, turning for even cooking. Falafel batter freezes beautifully. I recommend not adding baking powder or salt if you will freeze it. When you're ready to make them, thaw your falafel batter and mix well. At this point, add the baking powder and salt so it stays fresh and crispy. Bon appétit! Let me know how it goes in the comments below!

Either your batter has too much water, at which point you should add some breadcrumbs to bring the batter together.

You probably added to many falafel at one time and oil temperature dropped. You have to add only two or three at a time..

All spice is the name of a spice. People have the little pickles or the pink pickles with falafel... I don't like pickles in general so I don't eat any with my falafel! I prefer cucumber. I hope you liked the recipe as much as I do! :)

I'm so glad you (and your son) liked it!! You can have falafel with any veggies you like: tomato, cucumber, pickles, parsley, fries, garlic sauce, tahini sauce, bell peppers, lettuce... etc.

I'm really keen to know the answer to this, too. Do you just soak the dried beans and then process them. Or should you cook and cool them before you process them, too?

You shouldn't boil them. Keep them raw and they'll cook when you fry them. Just soak, blend, and fry.

Bushra, Allah bless you my dear. You’re simply Ymazing (the Y here is replacing A on purpose to double the value). You can’t imagine how much I enjoyed watching it and how many times I’ve repeated it. It’s really OMG, after deciding to go simi-vegetarian since one week only to get such a Ywesome (same same here) link and guess from whom, a friend living in Uzbekistan :-) you’re sunch an inspirational, I wish you can see my kitchen now, you made buy a new food processor as I just moved to Cyprus recently. All the ingredients were purchased already and the chickpeas are currently enjoying a cold bath for the recipe to be done tomorrow morning. I’ll try to add another comment with the outcome. Wish me luck for tomorrow and keep it up. Thank you so much again and wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart.

Hello Bushra, it's me again :-) so I made it and as you've said, at some stage I lost track of how many pieces I've ate :-). I didn't read through the recepy so I assumed soaking 16 oz of split fava beans instead of 10 and added baking soda to them as well, this didn't ended up bad and I've only used the right measurement eventually. Moreover, I've used olive oil instead of the suggested oil and it worked very well too. I guess it was very good as a first attempt and I'd like to thank you one more time for this very well produced and informative pice of material. Keep it going please.

An excellent recipe. I couldn't improve on it any. May Allah bless you Bushes for sharing and caring. I have a suggestion for those who don't want to have to go through the hassle of frying , just make a huge batch of it, soak the freshly fried balls in warm water and soak out the excess water, and freeze in zip lock freezer bags. When you defreeze for later use, just steam them up over steaming hot water. This way you avoid having to fry the frozen batter, and also avoid the free radical in the fried oils.

Of course! You can make it and keep in the fridge up to three days in advance. Just make sure to mix before using and keep it covered. It might dry out on the third day so add a little water if you think it has dried a little since you first made it (a few tablespoons only!)

Bushes, My wife and I love your falafel recipe 😋😋. We have baked them, deep fried them and pan fried them. The baking is easy but they seem to get a bit dry (still delicious though). Pan frying has been the best result so far. I think when I deep fried the oil was not hot enough. What temperature do you recommend for the oil? 350F or higher?

So glad you like the recipe! I don't really measure the temperature of the oil but I would recommend 375 is a good temp.

Hi, your recipe looks delicious. We mistakingly bought 'regular fava beans', so not split and unpeeled I guess. Any tips on how to use those? Or should we return them and exchange them? Thanks

Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern food made from ground chickpeas or fava beans, mixed with herbs, spices, and onions. It is usually shaped into small balls or patties and deep-fried until crispy. Falafel is commonly served in pita bread with various toppings and sauces, such as tahini or yogurt-based sauces, and is enjoyed as a vegetarian or vegan option.
